Comprised of some of the top musicians in the country, the 68-member orchestra conducted by music director Mitch Glickman returns for rich explorations at the intersection of jazz and classical music.

Experience an extraordinary evening as the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra is joined by two legendary saxophonists, Ernie Watts & Bob Mintzer. The concert celebrates the visionary composer and music director Jack Elliott, showcasing his collection of commissioned works. The program includes compositions by John Clayton, Bob Mintzer and the premiere of the "Night Court Fantasy," based on Elliott's TV and film themes. The concert will also feature a world premiere from Bevan Mason, runner-up of the 2023 SJO George Duke Commissioning Prize.

Ernie Watts

Saxophonist/flutist Ernie Watts has won two Grammy Awards in his 50-year career. Watts has performed with Cannonball Adderley, Buddy Rich, Frank Zappa, and the Rolling Stones. Watts played with the Tonight Show Band for 20 years and works in jazz, film scores, and with symphony orchestras.

Bob Mintzer

Saxophonist and composer Bob Mintzer has worked in jazz for over five decades. Mintzer joined Yellowjackets in 1990 and has recorded over 30 albums as leader. Mintzer serves as Chief Conductor of the WDR Big Band in Cologne and holds the Jazz Studies Chair at USC.
